Why sustainable beauty? | Ecosophist
The scariest thing that I experienced, right before thinking about creating Ecosophist, was entering several makeup and beauty stores and realising that 90% of makeup and beauty product packaging is plastic.

It was then that I started thinking about how many women in the world consume all of these products and how many at the same time are conscious about the waste we're all creating and are looking for sustainable beauty products.

But not everything is lost! I've found as well that there are many new businesses that are conscious of this situation. Also there are more and more brands choosing eco-friendly options as well as established brands that are taking action to be sustainable. And they better do it...

Last year Zero Waste Week, an annual awareness campaign for reducing landfill, reports that more than 120 billion units of packaging are produced every year by the global cosmetics industry.
"If this level of consumption continues, by 2050 there will be 12 billion tonnes of plastic in landfills, equivalent to 35,000 Empire State Buildings. The UN has declared our current situation a ‘planetary crisis’ and no industry is exempt from scrutiny, including beauty." Perdita N.
Scary, isn't it?

Still, I'm quite sure that we're not going to reach those scary numbers because I know we've started slowly, step by step, changing our consumer behaviour and that makes me feel hope for the future. 

Every single opportunity where you have the option to choose, remember these predictions; the question of why sustainable beauty, then becomes so simple.
